If you’re looking for the best spots in San Francisco to take your little ghouls and goblins for a bountiful night of trick-or-treating—or if you’re a fan of elaborate decorations yourself—you’re in the right place.
We discovered a great resource from a local San Francisco mom: an interactive Trick-or-Treating Hot Spot map. It’s packed with places we’ve heard of—and some we haven’t!
But here are our favorite tried-and-true recommendations:
1. 24th Street in Noe Valley
This family-friendly neighborhood really gets into the spirit of Halloween. The charming homes along 24th Street are known for being generous with candy and festive with decorations, making it a top pick for both locals and visitors.
2. Belvedere Street in Cole Valley
Belvedere Street has long been one of San Francisco’s iconic trick-or-treating spots. The entire street transforms with elaborate haunted house displays and fun decorations. It’s a must-see for families looking for a full Halloween experience.
3. Jordan Avenue in Jordan Park
This flat, family-friendly street boasts beautiful homes and a welcoming atmosphere. With less crowding and plenty of candy, it’s the perfect spot for a relaxed trick-or-treating experience.
4. Avila Street in the Marina
For those in the Marina district, Avila Street offers a great mix of trick-or-treating and Halloween charm. It’s a smaller area, but the festive decorations make it a wonderful spot for young trick-or-treaters.
5. Jackson & Washington Streets in Presidio Heights
Presidio Heights is known for its historic homes, and Jackson and Washington Streets come alive with Halloween spirit each year. The stately homes put on quite the show, and the trick-or-treating is always top-notch.
6. West Clay Street in the Lake District
The Lake District’s West Clay Park offers a picturesque backdrop of beautifully decorated homes, where the neighborhood really goes all out for Halloween. Expect plenty of treats and a fun, slightly quieter atmosphere.
Bonus Spot: The Great Haunt Way
Not technically a street, but an event worth noting! The Great Haunt Way is an organized Halloween event taking place the weekend before Halloween, on October 27th. It offers a whole night of spooky fun for families, from games to candy, and plenty of photo ops.
Pro Tip:
From what we’ve heard, trick-or-treating tends to kick off around 5 PM, with peak candy-hunting hours happening around 6 PM. Be sure to head out early to catch all the fun!
Witching you well,
John
