Q: What services do you provide?
A: I’m a Health and Fitness Coach and guide people through functional exercises that mimic everyday living. I incorporate full body exercise programs using our primary movement patterns (e.g. squatting, lunging). I also teach clients how to incorporate their core and breathe into each movement pattern. Furthermore, I work with clients to incorporate other holistic factors that contribute to their overall vitality. These include nutritional guidance, coaching on importance of rest, hydration, and thoughts, and the like.
I’m also a Certified Massage Therapist. I provide Deep Tissue and Myofascial Therapy modalities with the intention to increase range of motion and decrease pain.
Q: How did you first get involved in the fitness industry?
A: I’ve been physically active most of my life, playing sports at a younger age and having a strong interest in working out and exercising during my adolescent years. As an adult, I decided to make the breakthrough into the health and fitness industry when a dear friend passed away of cancer. It was her inspiration that served as a motivation for me to want to help others achieve and maintain optimum vitality.
Q: You have worked with a lot of clients in your personal training career. Is there anything specific that separates the people who get the best results from those who don’t get any?
A: Yes, I have seen clients with similar issues start training around the same time. Clients who tend to travel often for work and/ or work late hours are unable to maintain a regular exercise program and maintain healthy eating habits. Those who work out 3-4 times per week and have healthy eating patterns far exceed achieving their health and fitness goals over those who don’t exercise periodically and don’t eat healthily.
Q: Describe your ideal client.
A: My ideal client is someone who is committed to taking the steps necessary to make their overall health and fitness a priority. I encourage clients to practice on their own the program we review in session. That way, they can progress and gain flexibility, mobility, strength, and the like. My ideal client would also ensure they’re eating according to the guided nutrition plan that we discuss early on during our work together. If the client strays from regular exercise and healthy eating habits for a short temporary basis, as long as they exhibit a willingness to return to regular exercise and healthy eating, that still shows maintaining a commitment to their overall health and fitness.
Q: Please tell us about a client success that makes you feel especially proud?
A: Any time a client walks through the studio door to show up for their own health and fitness continues to show me their dedication for self-care. That makes me feel proud. And, certainly, clients who achieve goals that they didn’t think were possible, or start feeling stronger and living with less pain…these are profound examples of success stories, too. But, I still feel encouraged to continue the work I do because the clients are the ones who make all the difference!
Q: What is your philosophy about life?
A: Live life to its fullest! It’s a valuable gift and we aren’t on Planet Earth forever. Exploring and engaging in activities that bring me happiness and sharing that with others is something to be treasured. Keeping my health and fitness a priority enable me to be able to achieve this philosophy.
Q: What are your favorite motivational tips?
A: Identify your dream and develop a more conscious awareness around your decision-making process as it relates to supporting that dream. Taking care of your health and fitness also allows you to participate in life. Whether it be enjoying play time with your grandchildren or doing that hike on your vacation, identify what your goals and dreams are and make decisions toward achieving that! It’s what brings you happiness, so why not?!?!
Q: Are there any tips you can give to people who are really busy to reduce workout time, or make eating healthier easier?
A: Yes, even 30 minute work outs are better than not moving at all; providing, of course, that you have proper form. Whether work demands you to work long hours and/or travel often, there are several core and body weight exercises you can do out the comfort of your own home and/or the hotel room. Planning equals success! Schedule your workouts and make them a priority. Likewise for nutrition. Sticking to a food plan containing proteins, vegetables, and healthy fats will get you started on the right track. Certainly, different foods plans are for different people. But, start by eating whole clean foods, avoiding processed foods, sugars, gluten, excess dairy, and staying hydrated will get you on the right track!
Q: What are your favorite healthy snacks?
A: I enjoy a chia seed pudding recipe that’s on our Ascend Body website. I also enjoy a protein coconut ball recipe that my CHEK Institute instructor, Rob Yang, introduced me to.
Q: How does your training in massage therapy inform your fitness practice?
A: Since I do postural and range of motion assessments as part of my training program, incorporating massage allows me to further see how clients are limited by range of motion. Identifying musculoskeletal issues for each individual client helps me target stretches and exercises that would best benefit that client’s needs.
Q: What changes or innovations are you planning for the future?
A: I’m currently in school to obtain my Neuromuscular Therapist certification. By the end of the year, I hope to have my website up and running.
